2.0 l annoying noise

Post by smully » Sun Aug 16, 2015 11:00 am

Morning all.
My 2 ltr bongo has a really annoying resonating noise at around 1750 revs. only really audible when the engine's under load.
I've sat in the back with my wife driving and although it's much quieter, it's still there.
As I'm new to this bongoing lark, I was wondering whether "they all do that Sir" or if I need to investigate further?
Cheers for any advice.

check the first part of the exhaust, its a double skin pipe, the inner can split and sound loud on the outer skin. some have to cut off the outer to repair/weld the inner then weld back the outer.

the black 3 inch air pipes are bolted to the chassis using bolts with a tube round it and grommets like these below but with a metal tube through the centre.

get hold of the pipe mountings and wobble them hard, does one or more sound metalic, they wear through the side wall of the gromet and when they vibrate the mounting bolt chatters on the tube but it also transfers noise from inside the pipe to the bodywork.
