Cat 2 immobilser?

Have just recieved my bongo, but insurance company I am with says I need a category 2 immobilisor(?). Does anyone know where and how much this should cost me. SW London/surrey/hampshire area

Have you tried LifeSure well posted on this site.

I instantly left Elephant.co.uk for them when i got my Bongo. Cheap and very clued up on Bongo's

Didnt have any trouble as mine doesnt have any alarm and is still insured for under ?250 a year fully comp protected for me and the wife. And im 30

Hi hedgetrimmer...how was Aldeburgh....?.......did you go to the famous chip shop...?

I would strongly recommend having an alarm/immobiliser fitted....at the very least a class 2......there have been a few Bongos stolen lately and zz from near Manchester had his broken into and his CD player and satnav stolen at the weekend.......better to be safe than sorry.....after all you are protecting your investment......Alan

I've had a cat 1 alarm / immobiliser fitted today - cost ?324.00 fitted, which included an extra motor for the driver's door lock so it will operate with the key-fob.

I'm also using a hefty steering-wheel lock as a visual deterrent.

I had a toad cat 2 alarm/immobiliser with remote central locking,and two key fobs fitted for?180 all in... the alarm was fitted,not the key fobs!

Thanks all for your info so far. Can anyone recommend a company/person in the sw london/Surrey area that could fit one for me. I also need new cam belt, starter motor, service etc.

Any tips gratefully received.

Bigdaddycain, did you have to have extras to get the remote central locking, or was it fitted all together?

if ive read your post correctley you do need an extra component for an alarm to work the central locking.

Thanks for that. Did you fit the motor or did it get done by the alarm fitter? If you did how difficult is it? I am a complete biff when it comes to anything technical!!

In case anyone in SW london area is interested, I will answer my own question. There is a company in Morden Surrey (not far from wimbledon) who will fit a cat2 immobiliser (viper something or other) for £100 all in. Vat the lot. Seems quite good to me.

does this alarm have remote locking or window closure unit compatible?

the alarm i bought has full window closure with remote central locking capability.
(you had to buy the wndow closure motor and the remote central locking slave motor seperate)

and yes the alarm fitter fitted it.

i bought the alarm for arround £90 delivered it has remote engine start, turbo timer full closure and remote central locking and he fitted it for £100. but he said if he fitted one again he would charge £120 coz there was alot of wires to fit and it took him alot longer than expected.

so for £200 i got a good alarm thats start me bongo to warm it up so i dont have to go outside on the cold frosty mornings

, so it may be worth your while shopping around and getting a few quotes.

Now that's the sort of alarm I need, the only other thing I would want it to do is to carry me in from the car and scratch me crotch to save me a job. definitely worth looking into. Happy motoring.

lol dont know about a crotch scratcher but i think you may get one but i dont think it will come from the alarm...........maybe be an alarm fitter if you shop around and pay extra

As a compliment to a cat 2 thatcham alarm system and immobiliser I have always found, to keep the tealeaves at bay Non Standard is best, Trawling through the http://www.westfalia.net i found the farming section where a robust tractor switch can be bought for a fiver. this i have spliced into the main power cable in a discrete place at it leaves the battery and when parking in unknown territory I use the isolating switch to prevent any hot wiring of the vehicle. I do by the way have this cable bridged by a lighter piece of cable and a inline 10 amp fuse to maintain the clock and existing alarm.
Its maybe overkill and hopefully I'll never find out if it works but it gives added piece of mind. Also if parking the vehicle up for a while for winter etc its as easy to remove the inline fuse and operate the isolator to prevent the battery draining.
