Passenger Door Central Locking Failure

Post by andrewlyon » Wed Jun 10, 2015 2:22 pm

Hi, everyone.

First post, though I've been utilising the collected wisdom that is the forum for a few months!

My passenger door central locking has just stopped working. I noticed the other day that the motor was making a funny noise and doesn't lock or unlock the door. I suspected a mechanical problem, as the locking tab on the inside of the door didn't seem to work either. I was able to lock it from outside with the key, albeit stiffly.

I took off the door card today and had a look at it, squirted some lubricant into the mechanism and the manual interior lock now works, but the central locking still doesn't. As far as I can see, the rod linkages are all connected, and the motor is being powered as it is making a noise.

Has anyone come across this? Is it possible that the door locking motor is jammed? Or is it likely to be a fault in the lock itself? Access inside the door looks appalling, so if it's not an easy fix it may have to be a dealer job (luckily still under warranty).

Thanks,

Andrew

Get it back if it's still in warranty

In the end I took out the window runner to get access and was able to detach the electric locking mechanism - the motor works fine but the plastic cog + socket part has snapped off, so looks like a new part required.

When we got our current Bongo, the central locking on the passenger door would fail sometimes and sound like it was struggling most times.
I found it much easier to install an aftermarket central locking plunger than remove and replace the original. A fair bit cheaper too.
Wired both of the plungers up in parallel. Now, it most certainly does lock
