scavenging fan and hold warning lights
My garage thought the recurring scavenging fan light issue was related to an exhaust 'waste gate' problem, although inspection showed no obvious issue. This has come on again (on one occasion) and recently the hold warning light has come on after an up and down journey around Exmoor. Issue seem to occur when the diesel engine is under some pressure.
Another longer term problem with possible connections is a faltering and almost juddering sensation when gently accelerating between 40 and 50 mph, corrected by taking your foot right off the accelerator and then putting it hard down.
Are these issues related, and are there any remedies?

Welcome to the forum
. What year is the van? Around about 1999 they changed to a 'drive by wire' injector pump with a variable vane turbo and the added complexity means that if they do go wrong they can be more tricky to fix.
Are you sure the hold light came on by itself or could it be the hold switch was accidentally pressed?
The glowplug light is used to indicate diagnostic issues: http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... ostics.pdf
The hold light flashing can indicate a gearbox related issue: http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... dlight.pdf

Mine does not have a scavenger fan light ... Is it an aftermarket fitting .. or just on diesels ??

The scavenger fan warning light is (Normally)the heater/glow plug tell tale light.

Ah right .. mine is a petrol .. no glow plug light ..
My scavenger fan does come on .. but only when stationery for a longish time (obviously with the engine running).. the 'whooshing' of the fan is louder than the engine ..!!

Do you have an engine management light or a hold light?
When any of these lights come on or flash it means (normally ) there is a fault, it does not mean its the scavenger fan in particular.

Re: scavenging fan and hold warning lights
I have an hold light (but it as never flashed any gearbox faults) .. No EML ..
The handbook says it's a 'grade option' and the cat heat light / battery light should come on if there is a fault with the scavenger fan ..
But my V6 as never had a factory fitted 'heat' bulb .. as can be seen that the printed circuit .. Unlike the missing ABS bulb .. there are no 'tram lines' from the bulb holder contacts .. I did try a bulb / holder .. but it did not even light up in the 'check bulb' mode ..

Re: scavenging fan and hold warning lights
I have fitted a switch across the engine bay temprature sensor so that I can over ride it and force the scavanger fan to run if I want to cool the engine bay down on a hot day. I did this as in very hot weather the cab can be quite warm just after parking up when the residule heat from the engine rises (possibly worse on V6 petrol) and it is often very warm in the van on your return. When this switch is used to over ride the scavenger sensor it makes the charge light flash, so I can confirm that the charge light is used to indicate faults.
