Groaning AFT

Post by cmm303 » Mon Jun 01, 2015 2:37 pm

I have had difficulty stopping my AFT from groaning and creaking especially on the way down. I think it is because some of the white nylon rollers are seized and this would explain why it is sensitive to the tilt of the van.

I have tried all sorts. Spray on grease did quite a good job but in hindsight that is probably because it also lubricated the surface of the rollers. Last night I tried spray oil with Silicone (as used on Mountain Bikes). There are still some rollers not going round. I tried freeing one of the small exposed rollers that does not seem to do much and no amount of spraying and wiggling with pliers freed it. So I don't hold out much hope for rollers that are buried in tracks. I didn't try penetrating oil as I thought this goes sticky as it dries.

Should I just grease up the tracks and give up hope of the rollers all rolling? Or maybe there is a magic spray?

Thanks
I've got some silicon spray, used to reduce mud sticking to bike. Not tried it. Same as the plumbers version? Excellent for curtain rails also!

you wont have a silicon spray
it will be be silicone
the snatcher thatcher showed herself as the most inept chemist (BSc) confusing the 2 on telly

clean all surfaces, track rollers etc with your favorite solvent. shift any oil grease dust etc no WD40

A mountain bike summer lubricant (red bottle) is a good choice, (contains PTFE and water)
Finish Line Teflon Plus Dry Lubricant

ps I have the joy of dealing with Silicon (eutectic die attach for the google miesters) and silicones (try Dow Corning)
on a daily/ regular basis.
