Two batteries

Hi,

I have a 96 n-reg 2.5 turbo diesel Bongo, and it seems to have 2 batteries (one on left, one on right).

How do I check if one of them (right one presumably if you stand i front of car) is a leisure battery?

Also, regardless of what battery it is, does it mean I have twice the amount of time I can use electricity from the 12v sockets in the car?

If there is a switch with a little 'Engine' logo on it down by your right knee it is a 'Winter Pack' model.

This has two starter batteries to cope with extreme cold starts.

A look at how the big cables run will also give clues, and yes, LB or two starter batteries you can run stuff for longer, but if you run down starter batts Bongy won't start.

Are they connected directly by "solid" cables or through a relay of some kind?

Hi, I have the winter pack model with two starter batteries. I am thinking of adding a leisure battery. Is it any easier to do this in a winter pack model?

Does it have a split charger already in place that could be used?

A little cheaper as you a already have the battery holder & a battery that will work for a little while!
You will need to remove the cable from the battery on the Offside which connects to the battery on the Nearside. Then a Split Charge Relay and additional wiring loom to pick up the required circuits needs to be added see this link http://www.solarcampersolutions.co.uk/i ... 1-bongovsr

one of the batteries is connected via a relay into the dashboard area.
the other battery on the left has a solid cable down, presumably to starter motor.

Although it might be a leisure battery, i am not sure what it is connected to? I need to put key in ignition for each and every 12v point in the car?

The battery on the Offside is the standard Starter Battery, the thick cable goes to the starter.

The battery on the Nearside is the leisure battery, if its connect via a relay to the starter battery.
There should be a pair of fuses close to each battery added and the cable from each fuse leads to the Split Charge Relay. The Leisure battery should also have a connection to a fuse box, which will then have leads off to the old fuse box down by the drivers right knee where it will pickup the existing circuits to feed them from the LB.

and how do i know which poweroutlets work off the leisure battery?

Only the 12 volt ones to start with!
If you look at the fuse panel down by the drivers knee see if its wired up like this;

If so then the front socket on the dash and the rear one on the nearside in the pocket will be working, after that you will have to find out by plugging something in.
