Removing the central beam to work on the engine!

Post by manwithsound » Fri Apr 17, 2015 4:28 pm

Hiya,

Before i delve into my engine to sort the tappets, does anyone have any advice to removing the central maetal engine cover. It seems to have alot of plastic around the gear lever and i'd hate to break anything!!

Before i recieve any replies, i'd just like to say a massive thank you to whomever runs this forum!!

I love it

Cheers Jay

ignore most of it, leave all the cables connected, just remove (i think) just the 3 mounting bolts shown on here. then lean it over out of the way. be careful not to strain the cables/ends. then unbolt the center bridge and swing it over to the rear leaving the hand brake cable connected.

There should be 2 plastic butterfly nuts on the plastic central console. That much I know, you need to undo them and remove the plastic console. I would also imagine that there is a need to lift the seats back to gain better access, they are held in place with 3 x clips each 2 front and one to the central console top section.. I gather there are 2 bolts holding some of the gubbings down on the top of the cover. From there on the middle section of metal over the top of the engine is likely to be held on with bolts/screws.

If you join the Bongo Fury club there will be fact sheets on this. I believe clear instructions on how to remove the middle section reside in the "glowplugs" .pdf.

Worth every single penny !

Other than that someone will be along soon... to carry on from where I left off with better ideas on the bolts/screws.
