rocker cover gasket diy?

Noticed we have to change ours,is it a day job?..take it require a touque wrench?

Easy job...most folk should do it in no time...I take time over everything...arthritic joints... ...Torque wrench...well...hand tight and a bit, and re-check in a while....I have torque wrenches, but only for the important bits!

Do I have to remove the black centre section that covers the engine bay,where the centre console fits over?

yes.

the torque wrench is very important on this job as the bolts that hold the rocker cover on have a very thin steel tube round each one to help the gasket position correctly and to space the rocker cover from the head face. if these bolts are over tightened they may collapse slightly unevenly making the rocker cover uneven so the gasket will not seat evenly.

number 6 on this link. it doesnt show the tube but you will get them in the new kit.

That's worth knowing re: torque...I don't think I tightened mine much more than finger -tight (with a bit of hylomar)...plus a wee tweak...probably not tight enough!
