Electrics completely dead

Post by Bongorolo » Sun Mar 22, 2015 12:10 am

Would appreciate some guidance/help. My battery fully charged, terminals tight, fuses ok but no ignition lights etc when key inserted and turned. Yet to check the earth leads but as it was working last time out (Christmas time) wondered if there was anything else I should check?

Hi, and welcome.

I think I would still look to the battery since your Bongo hasn't been used in 3 months.

When you say, 'Fully Charged' have you put a charger on it? Was it left with a Maintenance Charger on it for that time?

With the charger removed what voltage is it reading?

Have you tried a booster pack or jump leads?

It is possible the battery has died over the lay up period but you think its been charged.

Really hope that's some help.

Check fuse 4 (main) and 13 (ignition) in the fuse box under the bonnet.
Have you got an immobiliser which may have malfunctioned?
Have you got one or two batteries and what voltage(s) are you getting?
Do other electrical things like headlamps work?

Thanks everyone for the ideas - very much appreciated.

Battery still charged. (had used my Halford battery charger) Nothing at all working. So in line with the suggestions, went through the checking of the leads again, checked fuses and then remembered I had an earth isolator put on the main battery as the battery used to keep draining when standing for a long time. This had worked great for the last year. Took that off and reconnected direct to battery.

Yeah!!:D everything fired up. There was a fault in the isolator. Being only 12 months old I thought it would have been OK. Will get this replaced. You live and learn I suppose.

Thanks again for your quick response to my plea for help
