AFT temporary repair?
Hi, new to the site and proud owners of our first ever Bongo. The garage we purchased it from left the roof elevated overnight and there was a heavy snowfall. The roof subsequently bent and cracked the edges. Is it possible to repair in the shorterm in a Frankenstein manner as we are looking to go for a hi top in the summer?
Cheers

Hi, and welcome to you both.
I think Gasy has a cheap and cheerful answer, good luck.

Welcome to the forum
. Hopefully you got a good deal on the van due to the damage.
I don't recall reading of anyone who has fitted a hightop in place of an AFT, but while it should fit, they are designed to fit to a tiptop roof which is a different shape panel.

A good source of fibreglass cloth, resins and colours are boat builders
Re: AFT temporary repair?
Surely if the garage left it elevated they should take some responsibility for the damage?spookmaria wrote:Hi, new to the site and proud owners of our first ever Bongo. When asked about Western Civilisation, Ghandi said 'that would be a good idea'...

Hi
I would agree with Munroman. You left it in the hands of somebody else who left the roof up, therefore it is their responsibility of care, in just the same way that they would be liable if it was stolen whilst in their care.
Open negotiations carefully, and I hope you are successful . No naming of the garage, please...Forum policy

Thanks for replies. It was purchased at a discount due to the damage. I'm trying to insert images taken but it appears to be one of those days...

As its quite close to the hinge, it will have a lot of weight on it so may be worth reinforcing the repair with an aluminium plate on one or both sides.

Hi
Are you sure that won't get air rushing in at speed and straining the locking mechanism??? I'd get that done pronto, and my thoughts are the same as Simon. Are you looking at fitting a hi-top yourself?...if so, I think Haydn is the man to speak to!
