one charger but two batteries

Post by fudgey » Thu Aug 07, 2014 1:14 pm

Hi,
i have a side conversion running two cables down the side of the van, with a LB and EB in the front, but only one charger in the rear, my cables go up to my switch on the zig unit, i know i must connect the battery charger up to both live feeds but i am worried that when i switch the zig unit to LB it will loop around and take the charge fronm both batteries in the front, or have i got that wrong, i was going to connect my charger first to my LB and then a wire across to my EB, before it gets to my switch on the zig unit.

Thankyou, Fudgey ( BRISTOL}

Depends which Zig unit you have, the later ones parallel the batteries in the "Tour" position, and only charge the L/B in the "Onsite" position, the best unit is the Marquee 1 and one of the X70/80 charge units, much simpler to use and operate.

Which Zig unit do you have ? I assume EB stands for Engine Battery ?

just checking that i got this right, when parked on site if i switch the zig to touring it will charge both batteries, does it have to be marked touring on the zig to do this or can i leave the rocker switch in the middle [level ) and it will do the same job. the one on ebay is not marked up touring.

thank you.

Not dealt with the CP400 before, the manual is here;

I'll see if I can locate a circuit, but the manual states that it has nothing to do with charging aspects! ..... well that was quick :-)
http://www.g8dhe.net/bongo_images/zig/Z ... ircuit.pdf
and yes the CP400 is similar to the Marque1 in that it is just a control panel with the Battery selector - Volt meter - and switches (unfused) for loads.
In itself it doesn't have a charger, but I suspect would be used with something like the

To answer your question NO - Select Touring or Car and ONLY the car batter will be used / charged on this control panel (its not a later version CF8/9).
Selecting Onsite or Van and ONLY the leisure battery will e used / charged.

The CP400 and similar is really only a module linked to other Zig modules to allow custom designs, the later versions CFxx are complete systems.
