Waeco fridge help

Post by 3leggeddog » Sat Aug 02, 2014 8:22 am

Hi all, hope someone can help

I am not sure my waeco fridge is working correctly.

It works fine on hook up and whilst engine running

when engine is off, it powers up for 4-6 seconds at a time but does not cool at all.

the light works so power is getting to the fridge.

Many Thanks

What fridge and how's it connected? Typically with a Waeco compressor fridge, if the fans starts up for a few seconds, stops and then starts up over and over again, then the supply voltage is low. If it works fine on hookup and when driving, it would suggest your leisure battery voltage is low i.e. not being charged or is knackered.

Yes agree with simon probably low leisure battery voltage. Also could be cable from leisure battery to fridge. If you have a volt meter check at battery and at fridge output.

Definitely, the Waeco fridges have a low-voltage cut-off to prevent you killing your leisure battery. On ours (Waeco MDC 050) it switches off at 10.4V and won't come back on until the leisure battery is back up to 11.7V. When it's cut out, there's a red flashing light in the back of the fridge where the thermostat control is.

Thanks all

I will break out the avo once the van is back from the menders. Gearbox, leisure battery and broken awning. An expensive trip.

I bought the van already converted, how do I remove the fridge to check the voltage it is receiving?

You don't need to. Just measure the voltage across your leisure battery.

It's definitely the fridge low voltage protection. It should run for several minutes at a time.

Your leisure battery is dead. Put a meter accross the battery when the fridge is "stalling" and watch how low the voltage plummets. If it doesn't then you have a wiring fault, though it's most likely the battery.
