Has anyone successfully changed their steering wheel (on an airbag-equipped model), for an RX8 one, and retained the airbag ?
Failing that, is there a way of 'fooling' the airbag sensor with a resistor, for the time being ?
Thanks,
Mark

Re: RX8 Steering Wheel
There's a thread on that somewhere
Airbag was a problem
It's not a small job
And what would insurance say to a mod like that?

Yep see here.

3.3ohm resistor from Maplins does the trick nicely.

Re: RX8 Steering Wheel
Great, thanks for a useful reply !
Is it possible to connect up the new airbag, or is that a non-starter ? Which connector/pins do you fit the resistor ?
Cheers,
Mark

Re: RX8 Steering Wheel
OK well on the airbag thing its still up in the air - pardon the pun.
RX8 has twin system Bongo has a single (earlier) type.
Now you can do a cut and shut on the loom and connect to one of the two airbag detonators.
I chose not to and have the airbag off for the time being, and fit the resistor into the plugs directly that would be on the airbag. They do a big (blue) one in Maplins about £1.70 that will fit without need for soldering or cutting and then you can swap back to stock Bongo with firing airbag in 10mins tops.
Next up would be to fit a wheel from a Mazda 2 or 5 as they have now reverted to single bang.
These are currently expensive where as a RX8 one is £30 complete.
