Question re brakes.

Post by Winniebongo » Mon Jul 14, 2014 7:05 pm

I have a problem, been trying to change my rear discs and pads and wrecked the bottom guide pin. In heating same item I managed to burn the rubber protective gaiters and it's now off the road. The good news is it looks like we have had new brake shoes recently so they don't need changing. My options seem to be to either buy a new guide pin been quoted £16.60 plus carriage or try to get a second hand caliper complete, which would give me everything but all 2nd hand. If I buy the new guide pin I would then need a new seal/repair kit, most of which I don't need but again giving me extra spares, should I need them in the future. The seal kit is retailed at £60odd quid but could be £30ish if I can find one on E.Bay, so anyone any experience of this and what would you guys suggest?
Also does anyone know the make of the Bongo rear calipers, I have taken down loads of random numbers but no names, van is a 1998 4wd?
Thanks,
Winnie.

Thanks, I was looking for Big Red on E Bay as I have used them before
but couldn't find them. I E,Mailled another company but they asked me for numbers etc off the calipers to help them identify what make they are, I have done this but I am not sure how they will get on.

I recently stripped my rear calipers down for refurb and I don't recall seeing any obvious manufacturer details in the casting.

Caliper repair kits are £40 on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazda-Bongo-F ... 4ac5eb59a0

The pads are same as several other models (see right hand box) so that may help widen the search.
