Arial repair

Post by clutha » Tue Jun 10, 2014 8:05 am

I managed to bend the arial severely reversing in woodland. So much so it snapped off.

While making a temporary fix with some wire I had the roof fitting off and in spite of a lot of pulling, couldn't get the cable free.

Am I getting weak or is it fixed in a way that it doesn't come off?

There wasn't a lot of slack in the cable either.

If my temporary fix works ok I may just leave it. I tried it without driving and reception was good.

(Thin brazing rod inserted and crimped in  )

There is a Fact Sheet in the Members' area, or a patch up can be done with a 'Bee Sting' for a couple of quid off e-bay.

New arial is about thirty quid.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

If it's like mine, the black plastic dome comes off (destructively) and a single allen bolt separates the unit (watch for ball bearing). Replacements are about £30 and mine came with a new plastic dome. Other repair/replace jobs are available.

Thanks peeps.

Out in the monsoon in Glasgow/Clydebank today and reception was fine.
I think I'll chase up that bee sting method.
