Under Seat Drawer

Post by Mark Elvin » Wed Jun 04, 2014 7:00 am

I've seen a few Bongos with a very neat drawer that goes under the middle row of seats, does anybody know who makes these please? I know that a factory unit was available, but these are scarce.

If you are happy with a not so perfect looking one, supermarkets are full of cardboard fruit boxes which fit perfectly.

I use the larger common sized box slid under the offside of the seat and a smaller one slid narrow side in to the smaller gap to the nearside of the seat sliding lever. The length of the small box approximates to the side dimension of the larger box. Both stay in place nicely through friction and when they get a bit worn are free to replace. things don't rattle so much in cardboard either.

You can't beat storage that moves with the seat like the one I made. I tried storage boxes etc but found them a nuisance and they tended to split and break through the general crushing and yanking. The carrier rails for mine were very quick and easy to make and install and you only need to make a simple box/tray to go on it, though something with a latched lid and handle is best as you can pull it out of the Bongo and carry it like a suitcase without spilling contents. :-)
