Rear to side conversions
Hi, I have a rear conversion and would like to change to a side conversion, so I can fit a rock-n-roll bed. Has anyone done this? If so, how do you go about this undertaking?

Strangely enough I have just started the brief is I must be able to change from people carrier to camper with two people in less than one hour.Bwlphill wrote:Hi, I have a rear conversion and would like to change to a side conversion, so I can fit a rock-n-roll bed. I have a rear conversion

Its ideal as I can carry 6 adult sized people easily, but not ideal for me and our youngest to go camping in, so I am making a quick in and out side mounted kitchen with a rock an roll bed.
I have the bed, £60 from Ebay ( its tatty but will be painted and re upholstered once finished)
I also have a fridge

I know a man who gets them cheap.
I will remove all the seats and rear kitchen.
Fit the bed ( fathom out how to add seat belts to it).
I have some old office furniture I will make the first set of units from, then once they fit and I am happy I may get a kitchen fitter friend to make a set. Its not rocket science just make a card board one first, then a wooden one.
Most expensive bit is often the stove/sink but I used a £10 domestic one converted to LPG.
I would suggest you look at loads for ideas VW T4 forum has loads of ideas to look at as does the section on here called Show us your insides I think.
Do loads of rough sketches.
Then make a card board box one.
Oh it is compulsory to collect bits whilst thinking and planning it so have a look, you could do it the boring way and just buy all the bits and bolt it in

Re: Rear to side conversions
Hi, nice idea but our bongo has had a proper fitted Montague conversion. My wife would like something the standard of what we have now. I will bear your ideas in mind, I like making a cardboard one first.

That's a Rolls Royce of conversions you have but I still feel a cardboard ones best then once you are happy they can make the card board one in to reality.
