xtrons connection
HI all,
Just got an xtrons td 173 DVD player for the van. It already has a . Single din
Player in that's not a mazda one. Question is do I need a new iso connector?
Looking at it the one on my present jvc player looks different. Anyone have any
Experience of connecting these units up?

Re: xtrons connection
If you're going to Halfords, ask for tartan paint, sky hooks or a long wait
. There is a Mazda ISO lead which converts from manufacturers own standards to ISO which is what many aftermarket stereos use:

Re: xtrons connection
That looks a bit like the cable that's already in. Doesn't seem like the one I have
Is the right size. It's on a jvc after market unit. So I assume you would need an iso

Re: xtrons connection
Got it sorted. Now realize the player is too deep.
Re: xtrons connection
Has anyone removed the metal bar behind the stereo to make the gap deeper?

Re: xtrons connection
There is a thread on here (somewhere) showing how to saw the bracket off the bar (you must not cut the bar as its structural). I can't find it right now but it's pretty much a hacksaw job. Try a search for double DIN or similar and you find the photos.
Re: xtrons connection
Found the thread thanks. I will get the saw out and remove that cross piece, not main bar?
Really pleased with the head unit. Althought it's an older model it does most of what I want,
excepting the gps. It has the option on the screen but doesn't seem to work. Anyone got any
ideas about this?

If it has the card in, what are you getting when you try to start the GPS up. Basically these units generally run Windows CE for the GPS application and you have to go into the menu to tell it where to find the GPS software.
Regarding the depth, is it one of the aerial sockets that's the problem? If so it's a damn sight easier to open the unit up, drill the backplate and move the socket than chopping lumps off the Bongo.
Re: xtrons connection
It says gps on the screen, but doesn't seem to have an antenna point.
It does have the ad card slot. Is the GPS receiver internal? I have an
Old bluetooth gps antenna that I thought might work. Where would I
Get the software from?
The aerial socket looks ok, need to look again to see what's stopping it
Going further back. I thought just sawing the plate out would be ok
As I can't see what purpose it serves except being a radio fastening?

Re: xtrons connection
Managed to get the unit in ok, with the cage I bought. It came with a black trim
So looks quite neet. I didn't do anything to the bar just made sure the wires were
Pushed to the left so as not to touch the bar piece. I put the iPod and usb connection in
The glove box. Really pleased with it now.

Re: xtrons connection
The GPS aerial won't be inside, it's usually a small screw socket on the back which then goes to a magnetic based aerial, generally a little square thing which can sit on the dash. If you haven't got that then it looks like it hasn't got a satnav system.
I doubt the BT GPS would work, are you sure the SD card slot isn't just for an auxiliary input.

Re: xtrons connection
No sign of a connection for an external sat nav.
System couldn't find bt device. I am sure the sd card slot
Is functional. I'll try and upload the software and see what happens.

Re: xtrons connection
It may require an external GPS box, a few years back that was the norm. has it got a connector that could be for the controls? the old GPS boxes were a video signal out.
