Grinding sound??????

Post by cynfal » Wed Sep 06, 2006 9:20 pm

Just come back from holiday in West Wales and not used the van at all this week until tonight. Each time I turned a corner I was getting a grinding juddering sound? Can anyone tell me what is the cause of the sound?
By the way the dripping water I had was a leak in the radiator- the seals had gone on the top and water eventualy was gushing out- all resolved now with a new radiator

You have probably heard this before, but have you bled the coolant properly after the rad change?
The grinding. Poss wheel bearing. But poss cv joint.

Hope this helps

When you say "grinding", do you mean "grauuuunch" or "grumble grumble" or "grumf"? Left or right or both ways.

Sorry, these things don't spell well, but there are different kinds of grinding and they cost different amounts :->

My first reaction was also wheel bearing. I'd try to reproduce it under controlled conditions (eg. by driving around a car park).

I had a noise a few months ago that I put in the REALLY EXPENSIVE category - sort of "graunch-grumph" going around corners. Turns out it was a 5 quid bracket that had snapped.

If you want to see if it matches yours, search for "Chris P" as author in "Techie Stuff", and select the one headed "knocking noise over uneven ground" (not my description). Even has a picture.

Cheers

Check your power steering fluid res under the drivers seat first if you haven't already.

I had a similar sounding problem - it was a low fluid level caused by a mild leak which was aided by some leak stop when I topped up the fluid...
