Webasto/Eberspatcher heater exhaust temperature?

I've had a Webasto heater fitted to my Bongo by Wellhouse - toasty!
Do I need to be careful what I'm parked on when I'm running the heater? I don't want the exhaust to start a fire under the van (naturally), but the pipe is pointing straight downwards. I could be parked on anything from tarmac hard-standing to newly-mown long grass - posh campsites to round the back of a sailing club.
I'd wondered about carrying a 12" square metal plate or something like that to put under the van, but do I need that? I'd probably forget it the first time I drove off!
What do others do?
Thanks,
Chris
