Webasto/Eberspatcher heater exhaust temperature?

Post by cbeeson » Sun Mar 23, 2014 10:06 am

I've had a Webasto heater fitted to my Bongo by Wellhouse - toasty!
Do I need to be careful what I'm parked on when I'm running the heater? I don't want the exhaust to start a fire under the van (naturally), but the pipe is pointing straight downwards. I could be parked on anything from tarmac hard-standing to newly-mown long grass - posh campsites to round the back of a sailing club.
I'd wondered about carrying a 12" square metal plate or something like that to put under the van, but do I need that? I'd probably forget it the first time I drove off!
What do others do?

Thanks,
Chris

The Eberspacher shuts down when temp in combustion chamber at 116C, so the exhaust pipe would be no hotter than that. Typically, the end of the exhaust pipe is horizontal or angled down slightly rather than vertical, so you could add an extra flexible section to angle it up slightly, but I don't think you need to worry too much.
