Passenger door gap

Post by Spencer54 » Sun Jan 19, 2014 9:48 pm

Today on another test run a noise on the motorway which sounded like the wind deflectors seems to be the passenger door not quite shutting.

Looks like it's not sealing and slightly proud, most noticeable at the top of the door.
Seal doesn't touch and wind is whistling through at high speed.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you just need to adjust the catch on the B post. Undo the 2 bolts slightly so it is stiff to move but will move. Adjust it in towards the centre of the car and re tighten. you may have to play around to get it right but it's easy enough. try to keep it level as you move it, if you dont it may not close properly.
Mine needs adjusting too.

Looked at that but it is not adjustable and fits into a profile in the B pillar.
Spoke to Northern Bong and he suggests a length of 3 x2 and a push....

Has your door position become deformed by being hit by a gust of wind whilst wide open?

I discovered quite early on that the doors are akin to (African) elephant's ears and very easily wrenched out of true if allowed to swing free in windy conditions.

Either the hinges or the bodywork where they are fixed can become deformed. In my instance it caused a rubbing of the leading door edge on the rear edge of the wing.

Only had it a few weeks, so no idea - I'll take a look at the hinges as it seems out all the way around except where the lock is.

It is adjustable, 2 torx loosened off and move it inwards. I've just done mine all cars are the same. You may have to give a slight tap as they stick but you will see there is a lot of adjustment on them when they are loose. I am talking about the loop on the Bpost not the actual door catch.

Job for tomorrow by the looks of it - I'll go with the B-post catch first as that's easiest and go from there.

I'll let you know.

just loosen it slightly and give it a tap to free it. If you undo it too much it will suddenly free and you will mess up the up and down adjustment. Undo it just enough so it will move with a little force, that way you can just move it in as required.

Had a go at this today, but my one has minimal adjustment on the lock loop.
I undid the torx and moved it 2mm if I'm lucky.

It's a bit closer but still not perfect.

Maybe the door has been off at some point.

If it ever stops raining I'll take a look at the hinges.

Hi
I had this trouble with a Freight Rover, I rolled the window down and bent the top in slightly, worked a treat.

Yeah I'd go with that but it appears to be proud all the way around, except where the lock closes.
I can get a finger in-between the door and the body almost all the way around.

Its not ridiculous, just the seals don't touch - and we get the wind noise.

the A post is a very thin profile and is easily pulled out of position, take the wing off then you will see the door hinges in place, then just push the hinge mounts IN towards the car. this is best done with the door left on so you can check the gap at the B post.

you may be lucky and get enough movement on the hinges, but i doubt it.
