Post by chipvan » Wed Jan 01, 2014 10:20 am

Presumably it shuts off when working normally by having power to it disconnected.

Do they ever respond to repeated application of power followed by removal of power, or is a tap with a plastic mallet a possible temporary cure?

The location of the solenoid is probably worth wising up on in advance now that many of us are driving fairly old Bongos.

Is removing the fuel filter an acceptable tool free way of stopping the engine, or does that introduce priming problems for any restart?

You can get fuel shut off valves on ebay for £40 - £60 (depending on diameter of fuel line) that are electrically operated.
One of these put in the fuel line and wired to only be on with the ignition (take care, some wires that are live with the ignition go dead when the key is twisted to the starter position) should sort you.

You should be able to get a new Fuel stop solenoid from your local auto parts store for under £20.00.

Mazda part number 093324300b

Bosch 9461612134

Mitsubishi MQ906099

They may use different manufacturers but should be able to cross reference the unit.

Good luck
