new Radiator for complete car idiot....

Post by tonyj » Tue Dec 10, 2013 11:36 am

Hi All,

as per title really, finally found a decent garage to take a look at the coolant leak and they say it needs a new Rad, the suppliers they use quotes 280quid,
i am assuming that as long as its for a diesel its ok? or does it need to be for an auto too??? mines 2.5TD 2WD 1996 AUTO....

ive hunted around and i've seen ones on ebay for 80quid (!! to good to be true?), bongobits.com for 118quid, and mazdabongo.com for 115 and on here for 135quid (the bongo shop)
I could do with one posted up to the highlands almost straight away so if anyone knows/used these listed above then i'd be very appreciative!!!!!

thanks!

These seem to be ebay powersellers with good ratings.

All the rads are similar quality build and that price is about right, just make sure your well versed in the bleeding process if your draining the system down

If it's the same rad as in the video .. make sure the garage blank off the overflow pipe by the pressure cap ..

Would suggest you Give it a good flush/reverse flush to make sure you get any Metal fines out before fitting

Has the garage fitted a rad to a Bongo before and more importantly do they know how to bleed a Bongo? Get this wrong and you are looking at the cost of a new cylinder head.......look at the "bleeding Bongos" video on YouTube ..... Download the fact sheet and hand it to the garage..
Ignore at your peril !!

That link is to the other forum. I believe their big 'thing' is that all their factsheets are available to access free of charge. Or, perhaps not ;)

There is a factsheet on changing the radiator which might be useful: http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... diator.pdf

The YouTube video is likely to make more sense anyway.

Yes that's what I use ..

As an 110% amateur .. I don't want to teach a professional 'granny' to suck eggs .. but it is still worth while 'wriggling' the pipes in case any 'stubborn' air is lodged in any nooks .. grannies and bends ..
