i've changed the back wiper but it won't go anywhere near the window. i don't want to bend the wiper arm unless i have to as i might be missing something glaringly obvious OR have the wrong kind of wiper on it. does it need a specialist wiper? i've just got a new 16 " one and stuck on but it's not doing any good floating in mid air #-o

Hi, the wiper is pulled onto the window by the spring under the wiper arm. It is possible that when you've pulled the RM way from the window that the spring has failed in some way. Might have stretched and lost its strength. Or if old and rusty may have just past the end of its life.
Its not uncommon for the spring to loose some strength an the wipers not clear the screen very well, but if its not even touching I would look closely at the spring and it is also possible that the hinge is tight.
I've personally replaced my rear wipers spring with a new one that has more strength and fitted one of the. New style single piece blade and it wipes well.

Cheers

I concur..this happened to me after fitting a new blade. Only noticed during a rain shower where the front was crystal clear and the ack looked like it had no wiper   Sprayed everything with WD pulled and shoved a bit and result!

Not wanting to hijack the thread but as its rear wipers I hope you wont mind. Mine has a stub where the wiper was. I seems to have the controls on the stalk so was wondering if it could be reinstated? I will post a picture v. soon so you know what I mean. Maybe they were fitted as standard but for some reason our Japanes owner / friend has bastardised this one?

Picture pending and thanks

Well this one is with the cap fitted

I was posting the other picture with the cap removed then photbucket went into a dive and logged me out?

So is reinstatement possible ot just a waste of time and energy? I would not even be discussing this if it were not for my rear R sole camera getting obstructed in heavy weather

I thought all Bongos had a rear wash / wipe as standard ..

Does the wash work .. and the spindle rotate when you move the steering wheel switch ..??

That's what I think and so I am asking what the chances are that mine has too and its been interered with for some reason. Maybe it does not rain in Japan   The spindle does not turn and the washer does not actuvate when pushed?? The stalk has the facility to (turn when twisted for washers) the twisted the other way for wiper but nowt happens

I am thinking replace the fuse (which one) in the box, checkout the washers for missing parts, renew the wiper and give it a go. However lot of time and money wasted if it turns out to be a bummer. Has anyone else come across this previoulsy

Cheers

There have been previous threads where rear wipers have been removed due to problems with the support/bearing. The problem is if its fitted but NOT working then its an MOT failure, if its not present then it can't be tested and thus can't be failed .... idiotic to my mind but there we go ....

Thanks .. I wrongly assumed .. can't say that I have ever looked to take notice on other Bongos ..!!

I was a bit bemused to find that the rear wiper on mine does not have an intermittent wipe feature ..

There again, I find by pushing the wiper stalk to the dash .. the one swipe feature useful for the front screen..

i've had a good look at my wiper and come to the conclusion that someone has buggered it up by painting it black. the front wipers were the same but my son blitzed them with wd40 and it seemed to cure the problem. no such luck on the back, the spring is solid as a rock.
where can i get a replacement spring, or failing that a new arm? i've tried searching the usual places but nothing comes up :?
