Going through the advisor on my new mot and they have put, "Both front headlamps deteriorated but light output not reduced", now both have been polished up and the film removed and they both look fine to me, I will change the bulbs as a matter of course, when asked they just said light was not good, now has anyone else come across this, does it mean the actual headlamp itself is knackered or what, I am still a bit confused, lol.

I don't get it, if the light output isn't reduced, what's the problem?

Yep I know cant work it out I have the 50% BRIGHTER H4 bulbs in there so should be ok. Are there led ones available that would be brighter but without the heat generated.

Are they referring to main beam or dipped beam?
Last time I read up on it, there were no LED lamps approved for use as main / dipped beam. Even if there was, it is unlikely they would be available to retrofit to an existing lamp unit. I used to find the Lidl/Aldi bulbs made by Osram were the best in terms of light output & price.

Does he mean the reflector at the back of the light unit?

Not sure but I have checked it and it looks fine, the garage who fitted my engine did this lot of work for me so I asked them, they said the lights are fine and they dont know what they are on about really either.

Its probably the reflector that is beginning to lose its shine. It would show up on the beam tester.
