Clock backlight feed

Post by trevd01 » Mon Aug 28, 2006 2:46 pm

Bought one of those BMW clock/ radio blanking space thingies off ebay. Previous threads have given me what the wiring colours are - people also said you can pickup these feeds from the back of the radio.

Now my radio runs off the leisure battery, which is fine for the clock itself, I guess, but I want the backlight to come on with the lights. My radio is lit all the time, (except when you remove the face-plate).

Can anybody suggest where to get a feed that is switched with the lights, reachable from the radio hole, that I can get a scotchlok connector onto? Colour?

Thanks

I fed into the dash lights circuit - I'd need to look under the dash to get the colour or try the members area for the wiring diagram

I picked up a feed from the radio connector, cant remember the colour just kept trying them with the side lights on/off.
If your leisure battery connection lights your radio up all the time then there may still be an original side light driven feed behind there somewhere

ISO plug A pin 6 is "illumination", this is the connector that plugs into the back of most radios. On my connector the wire is orange. I checked mine with a voltmeter and it goes to 12V when the lights are on. If you do a search with your favourite search engine you should be able to find a diagram of the ISO connectors, there are 2 (A and B) although on mine they are in one moulded block.
