Got Bongo back from Converters, Interior Lights not Working!

Post by digitalgypsy » Thu Sep 19, 2013 10:20 pm

Hello friends,

I picked up the Bongo from the converters today having had full conversion done. I tried using my interior lights (main cab light, light in roof) but now they no longer work! This means another trip back down to them and am not even sure if the electrician will be there. I am really quite angry as this has been one in a long line of issues that I have had with them. Anyway...

Can anyone think what the problem may be?? It now has a PMS3 power management unit and believe the lights should be controlled by that and still running off leisure battery? Everything else works so it's just the main cab light, light in AFT roof rear passenger's side small light not working. Funnily enough, the 2 small switch lights in the front (above stereo) still work.

Any advice much appreciated here :)

Thanks,
Steve

I don't think those lights would normally be wired through the leisure battery unless you specifically asked for it.

Try checking all the fuses first and see if that's the problem.

The driving area cab lights are on this fuse and will be switched over to the L/B in most converted vehicles;

Thanks very much for the advice here.

Does anyone know if there is a set of replacement fuses I can order from the Fury Member's shop? Looking at the list under 'Electrics' category, I'm guessing it might be 'Emergency Fuses'??

Thanks again.

You can get mini blade fuses from anywhere like Halfords, EuroCarParts or sometimes the pound shops do them. I tend to 'acquire' them from any Japanese vehicle whilst visiting local scrap yard.

Ok just back from the converters...

Electrician spent hour and half establishing the problem. The Bongo originally had factory kitchen which they removed. So they removed the kitchen and then replaced that space with a rear panel (as normal 8 seater would have). All of the wires that were going into the factory kitchen are still behind this panel.

The electrician said there was still power going through but he was trying to find the 'feed'. Or something like that, please excuse me as I am no electrician. There is nothing wrong with the fuses, that is the first thing he checked.

Anyway. I'm taking it back down there on Monday but am really desperate to get it sorted. Is there anyone anywhere near Portsmouth that could help me over the weekend?? Or even this evening. I'll happily travel to a certain distance within reason. I'll happily pay you for your time as well.

Thanks :)

Steve ....chill mate! It's not the end of the world the light not working, annoying yes, but not a major issue. Agree its a pain in the backside returning to the converters ( nice if you can name them! ) but if they have said they will fix them Monday let them. Why offer to pay someone to try and fix them over the weekend ....this will open a worm-box with the converter if anything goes wrong they will wash their hands and blame you! It's their thing to fix it ...let them ....be worth mentioning some kind of compensation re time/travelling etc? :D

I've just bought a couple of battery driven motion sensing LED lights for my house, about £3.50 off ebay and they're great. One of these might get you out of trouble for now (though switch off once you're in or else sit very very still or they'll come on while you're driving 8) ). I wonder if these might be the future of car interior lights

You are right Gizermark :)

My frustration goes past this issue however. They have been mostly unreliable from start to finish, promised the world but didn't deliver. Originally they said 2 weeks turnaround, that turned into 8 weeks. Lots of other things but all in all terrible customer service. If they don't fix Monday then I will definitely be naming them on here.

Only do that if you wish the thread to be removed, as naming and shaming is not allowed on the forum - see Rule 3 here http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 23&t=26157

Sorry to here that digitalspy ...seems no matter what you entrust to others in the uk there is always some idiot company likes of your dealing with.
If it goes pearshaped Monday then maybe a threat of legal action might work...not expensive through a small claims court.
Im sure however they will resolve the issue ...being polite does help but there comes a time when even that needs uping!
Good luck and if all else fails buy the LED lights mentioned and enjoy your Bongo ....:-)

They're not genuine sellers, so we can get no comeback from them

Thanks all for helps as always, where would be without Bongo Fury. Pleased to let you know this is now fixed.

The electrician spent about 3-4 hours fixing the problem so even if it's something they should have done in the first place, he is a top bloke!! Good lesson learnt however that you do have to ASK!

They have actually done a good job despite my previous moaning, will be sure to add photos to 'show us yer insides' post soon.

Happy Bongolier! :P
