Temp Gauge Rises Up Hill

Post by HARLEYBONGO » Tue Sep 17, 2013 8:11 am

Any ideas why the temp gauge rises whilst travelling up hills. I have carried out the modification to the rear of the gauge within the clock cluster. Is this normal practice as a result of the modification? I have not tested on any major hills as yet!

That would seem likely to me. Engine working harder, less cooling flow over rad, so engine gets hotter, and undamped gauge now showing it. Lots of others report similarly. :-)

As long as the needle goes back down as you go down the hill, it sounds ok.

Flick the hold button on while you're going up hill to drop a gear - you'll notice the temperature doesn't rise as much... higher revs means the water pump is circulating coolant faster and presumably the rad carries more heat away.
