Instrument Panel bulb holders
Does anyone know what bulbs to buy for the instrument panel, as well as which lamp holders? Also where to buy them.
Took the instrument panel out the other day and discovered that it was missing a fair few bulbs and holders (e.g. HOLD light and roof light). Not sure why they were removed in the first place but would definitely like to have a full set!

Bulbs are easily available from any car shop ..

BUT .. not the small bulb holders .. I searched through some grotty old ones and tried several motor factors for compatibles with no luck ..

Do not try the eBay LED type as the sharp contacts will have a good chance of ripping the thin plastic printed circuit..

As Mike knows, sometimes previous owners have been known to remove bulbs to mask faults. Also, not all of the positions are active as it varies from model to model.

If you look closely at the printed circuit .. look for blackened .. or clean copper etching bulb locations ... then you will see if one has originality been fitted..
Example ... If you look at my pic. .. my V6 has never had a cat over heating light fitted .. but at some time it had an ABS light ..

Re: Instrument Panel bulb holders
How many holders/bulbs do you need??
Re: Instrument Panel bulb holders
3 small black (for the red indicators either side of the panel)
1 x grey (for the glow plug light)
Didn't really think anything of the fact that it didn't have a HOLD light until the gearbox blew up a month ago. Took the instrument panel out and realised that it was also missing the roof light, glow plug light and sediment light, all of which work (and function as they should) if I transfer one of the other lamps into that socket. Bit worrying but would definitely give me piece of mind to have a full set.
Have found the sockets on eBay for about £7, but with the £12 delivery they seem a little pricey....

Re: Instrument Panel bulb holders
Send me your address and I will pop some in the post.
Is the grey one the same size as the black ones.....I.e. just a different colour...or is the grey one bigger?

Re: Instrument Panel bulb holders
If I recall the black and grey 'small' bulb holders are the same size .. the plastic colour dictates the bulb wattage (maybe to speed up production line assembly) ...

The printed circuit is marked with some bulbs wattage ..but I 'think' the Hold light .. ignition .. oil are three watts and the lights for gear change position (if fitted to yours)1.2(?) watt ..
The large bulbs / holders for the instrument illumination are 5watt with a green removable sleeve on them ..
