MPH KPH QUESTION AGAIN

Post by ELZE » Sat Jul 27, 2013 9:43 pm

Hi guys

probably been done to the death but can anyone tell me where I can get a white speedo face for my new V6. Just purchased this yesterday as a fresh import and its all STILL in Kilo's. I have done a search and found that the preferred option seems to be a face replacement rather than a full MHP conversion.

I was looking at these in the link but they are black

Thanks in advance

Very nice, makes a difference from a diesel in that I can actually here the phone ring! I have a few small probs, side lights off, horn off and a small chip on the windscreen but nowt to worry about. Soon sort it out.

I have just put the Tinny on the forum sale section

Thanks for the info.

Hello,go for the white plasma ones and you will not regret it.Its the full set speedo, rev counter, and warning lights. There are several plus points 1.no need to remove the needles 2.you can actually see the speedo in bright sunlight 3.they look stunning at night and you can change the plasma lighting from blue to green at the turn of a knob.4.even more stunning if you fit the chrome rings at the same time.5 no problems with the MOT as with some of the other dial covers 6.you can remove them to transfer to another Bongo at a later date,as the original dials are still in place. 7.no messing about buying and fitting a chip.In two years I have not come across any minus points.Cheers Michael

If you go for plasma dials, make sure you get the right type:

Diesel http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-BONGO-1 ... 43a2406672

V6 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-BONGO-1 ... 3a7f9b7ad1

I guess the latter will suit the 2 litre too if it red lines as the same point.

Not a mega problem as the V6 redline start is 500rpm higher than the 2.0 litre ..

Where is the lecky for the plasma dials picked up from ..??

This is what I ordered. Never stripped a binnacle before, how many spanners is it? Those familiar with Haynes will know this!

Thx

I'd take it off the feed to instrument panel which does the illumination. Alternatively, you would wire it into the side light circuit somewhere. There is switch that changes the colour, but unless you need to keep changing it, then it can just be tucked up behind the dash somewhere.

I'd say it was a 1 to 2 spanner job, unless you're a total tool noob :)

The instrument cluster is very easy to remove ..

MAKE SURE THE IGNITION IS OFF (or better still dis connect the starter battery) ..

Remove plastic dash surround four screws .. two under the top cowling the other two under the lower (switch) panel .. release the catch and drop the steering wheel ... pull top inner cowling cover down gently ... the long locating lug will clear dash ... unplug the front fog lights switch ...

Remove the four screws on the front of the speedo assembly ... Move speedo assembly forward .. disconnect the four electric plugs from the rear (they simply pinch in .. pull off the printed circuit) ... with a bit of a jiggle 'n squeeze .. remove the speedo. assembly ..

DO NOT TURN THE IGNITION ON UNTIL ALL THE LEADS ARE PLUGGED BACK IN ... OR YOU MAY PUT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ON ...

I still think the white plasma ones look the best. They get rid of all the black dials and the warning lights have a white background.I just think it looks odd,a white speedo and black rev counter. After all if you have it stripped down why not replace the lot and add chrome rings. If you want to see mine I will be at next two Bongo meets, call for a chat.Cheers Michael
