How to replace the exterior sliding door handle?

HI Everyone.

I have received a replacement exterior door handle for the sliding door on a 1995 model and was wondering if anyone could tell me the procedure for getting at the old one. I can't see how to get the inner grey door handle off to allow me to take off the interior lining.

A step by step from someone who has done it would be much appreciated. \:D/

Thank you.

Chris. =D>

Hi
First, pop the door capping off inside. The handle is fixed on by a wire circlip, or similar, and this can be revealed by levering the trim round the handle shaft out of the way until you can see the clip to release it. Then , you can pull the door card off, using a broad, thin, flat metal strip , sliding it along until you feel the clip, then it's lever and pop it!
Once the trim's all removed, the rest is quite obvious, with nuts and linkages to undo
When re-assembling, I can't remember which type of trim clip holds the door card on, but they're plastic on most cars, and fit into a keyhole slot...MAKE SURE you line them up by moving them, or you'll break the little beggars when you thump them back in....upon this occuring, flowery language is often heard (LOUDLY)....so make sure small children and animals aren't in the vicinity
Good luck on your mission...any queries, mail me :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
Cheers
Helen

Hello, all done. It all went smoothly (thanks Helen). Took my time with the clips. Funny thing was that when my wife tried to get out the inner handle didn't work. I nearly cursed until I realised I had accidently moved the child lock switch. #-o

The only difficult bit was the lower bolt as it's a bit tricky to get purchase on. However a little wd40 and tweaking sorted it.
