Front End Rumble

Hi - I know this topic has been covered but I thought I would ask the question. When driving the I get a rumble from the front on both sides when going over rough roads. It seems to be ball joint type of noise but it reduces as the van gets warmer. I have jack up the front and there is no play on the wheels and the drop links look ok. So my question is: do the 4wd versions make these kind of noise's anyway and should they be quiet.

Hi
When you jack the Bongo up off the road, looking won't tell you anything. You will need a long metal bar to lever the suspension up and down with the bar under or adjacent to the component you suspect.

jack all four wheels off the ground then either run the engine/box, or try turning one front wheel, then one back wheel by hand, see where the noise is coming from. centre bearing on front prop/wheel bearing/drive shaft bearing/diff bearing.

Hi .i had exactly the same symptoms. and it turned out to be the front tyres , had them all replaced with Kumo's and all is now running quiet. on inspection the front tyres had load of tread but had a ridge running in the centre of the tread.

Ball joints and drop links produce distinct knocking rather than rumbling. As said, neither can be detected by looking and wiggling. You really need a pry bar.
As said, could be the tyres or a bearing.

Thanks to everyone for you response. Sorry for not responding but been away enjoying the bongo. I will do as suggested as it is a knocking sound, but it really isn't that bad now I'm putting some miles on it. It had been stood more or less for a year before I purchased it. The tyres are quite new and good quality (Firestone) but could be worth a try.
