Can oil leak from head / inlet manifold gasket?

Post by Jimbob1979 » Thu May 23, 2013 6:21 pm

I have been trying to locate the source of an oil leak for some time and I am out of ideas. I have replaced the rocker cover gasket and this is compltely dry now. I have bought an inlet manifold gasket which I plan to do in the next couple of weeks but I'm almost certain this is not the source. When looking at the drivers side on the block there is oil collected all along the head gasket that you can see where the head joins the block. There is no contamination in the water and nothing that I can see in the oil.

It hardly loses any oil but every now and then there is a drip or two after a journey. Anyone got any suggestions

camshaft front oil seal maybe. coss the engine is tipped slightly back end down it runs down the front of the engine, then hits the head/block joint then runs backwards.

I have exactly the same oil leak too, I'll have to take off the cam belt cover and check that oil seal, I hope it's that as that's a much easier fix than a head gasket

Might be worth looking at 13-234 and 20-306A.

If they show signs of black oil (gunge) the inlet manifold needs to be degunged, its probably never been done since it was a bairn.

You could try Bongobits/Ava/Mazda etc or get a bit of gasket material and make them, dont forget to clean out the manifold.
