Gearbox Not Changing
Jumped in my Bongo this morning and noticed that the gearbox didn't want to shift out of first until it had seemed to have warmed up. This took about 5 minutes. But if I pressed the Hold button it would shift.
Is this because the transmission oil is cool?
Has anyone else experienced this?

Update
Drove my Bongo again this afternoon - again it took 5 minutes or so until it would shift. What I have noticed is that the rev counter seems to flick around as I drive along and when it appears to settle the gearbox shifts.
Should I ease off?
Should I ease off on the gas before the gearbox changes?
Again
Again I got in my van started the journey home from work and it wouldn't shift out of first. Stopped in a layby - waited for it to warm up, shifted fine after that. Checked the autobox oil - seems to be clear in colour. I've heard from another post that its usually red or sometimes blue. Do you think an oil change will remedy this? Also notice that the rev counter needle seems to be behaving erratically. Where does this connect to the autobox - or do you think it mind be at the speedo back. I am not seeing any hold lights flashing - could it simply be a case of old oil or do you think its something to with a loose electrical connection?
This is really beginning to bother me - I have to wait everytime for my Bongo to warm up before I can drive it.

Scotty -if I were you I would have a word with a gearbox/transmission specialist as the gearbox has various sensors and solenoids which can cause problems. It certainly is not normal for your gearbox to have to be warmed up to change gears other than from 4th gear to lockup. Others have spoken to and been helped by Dunnings Transmissions of Weymouth (tel:- 01305 783113) Usually your hold light will flash if you have a gearbox problem -the flashes can be interpreted to provide fault codes which will diagnose the problem. I also would have expected your ATF to be red -did you smell the fluid? If it smelled like burnt toast then it indicates problems. Just put "gearchange" in the search option on this site -there is quite a lot about gearboxes.
At the top of the forum there's a 'search' button.
The gearbox oil is discussed on many threads including this one: http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... c2c12446a1
I think there's a factsheet in the members section.

Allans Garage retired. Try PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services Plymouth
Solution???
Took the speedo out yesterday and refitted it - the rev counter seems to be working now (its no longer flicking about erratically). The gearbox doesn't appear to need time to warm up before it shifts from 1st - 2nd as it did previously in my post. Does this make any sense to anyone - why would checking the connections on the speedo dials seem to resove the problem of the gearbox not shifting???
Rev counter
So does the rev counter tell the gearbox when to shift or does the gearbox feed the rev counter. Could someone clarify the relationship?
Have searched the archives - has anyone experienced similar things when removing the speed dials etc

There's a sketch in the Members factsheet area of the inputs to the autobox....up to 11 in all, including vehicle speed and engine revs amongst others. The speedo is electronic and picks its sensor from the gearbox.
