flip down seat internals

Post by cookan » Wed Apr 03, 2013 12:35 pm

Hi guys,
I'd like to try to fit some rear head rests to my rear flip down seats and rather than have my wife unpick the seat covers to see what the construction looks like inside I wondered if anyone had any pictures of the internals (perhaps from a upholstering project?) that I could look at to get an idea of what might be involved before progressing...

thanks,
Ant.

cheers mate, looks promising...am I right in thinking those are pics of the seat base only btw ? If the seat back is a similar construction, shouldn't be too difficult to weld a couple of tubes on to accept a headrest...

thanks,
Ant.

I made clip-over ones like car shops sold in the sixties, and used spare Bongo headrests for them. Worked a treat. It'd be a shame to butcher a good pair of seats if it can be avoided. 8)

yeah, I read some of the posts on clip on/slip over headrests on the forum and found some ones on ebay also but I'd like to do something that'll be smaller to store (3 kids+2 adults in a bongo for a month means every inch of space counts !). I'm up in Leeds atm so can't do any work on the bongo but had a bit of a dig last night and feels like there's plenty of exposed framework on those back seats to be able to weld some restraint tubing...if I can source some bongo headrests and inserts it'll look like it'd always been part of the car hopefully !. The seat material looks like it's just held on by some split rings under a velcro flap which if I can remove, should be able to just pull the seat covers off to see what's what inside..might then lace them back up instead of trying to re-ring them so their easier to take off in future and wash...

I now have a headrest on my rear flip down seat so very pleased with that (as will my son who has outgrown his child seat).
