Tough Northerner's lives up to its name
Hello, greeting from the Tough Northerner's Meet. This lives up to its name and only Touhgh Northerner's seem to turn up.I personally due not think it has been all that cold, and we have hardly and snow here.I only rate this as #3 in my top seven list (this is my seventh Tough meet) I rate Craster as the # 1 for the gale force winds we had that weekend (Ian cancelled the walk to Embleton due to the high wind)I went on my own. After about 1mile of walking into the head wind I said to myself (Michael you are mad!)but the udefeatable Derbyshire gritt kicked in (if you can remember the circus clowns leaning forward without falling over that's how it was).I rate Cartmel Racecourse as #2 for the fact of once again high winds.I remember being woken up at around 02.00 hrs by some one banging on the Bongo and shouting "Can you come and help as 3 awning have blown away and people's camping gear is all ove the Racecourse". My experience Clitheroe is not bad, a little snow, not all that cold and the comments of people in Nelson,Skipton, and Clitheroe.I went to Nelson on the bus (a fantastic journey through all the little villages and around the foot of Pendel Hill,I would recommend this other people).Nelson it's self consist of lots of boarded up shops and Muslin shops, but what I remember is the comments of lots of people with the words "you must be hardy wearing shorts in this weather". To which I replied "I do not think that it is cold".This happened on Thursday and the same on Friday in Skipton, and on Saturday in Clitheroe. Nobody would even comment back home in Derbyshire. Anyway 15 Bongo turned up which is not bad. we had a walk yesterday along side the river Ribble into Clitheroe which around 10 Hardy Bongonaughts went on and I think that they enjoyed it.So once again Ian you have sorted out the men from the boys.Cheers Michael

I was at Cartmel, and it certainly was challenging. I remember feeling that Craster must have worse. It's the (freezing) wind that is the morale sapping killer. But its been very windy this weekend. How have you managed to keep out of it? I'm an unashamed fair weather camper these days, which probably explains why I've not camped in nearly two years.
