New owner... 2.5 engine running funny

Post by DRob » Mon Feb 18, 2013 2:34 pm

Hi All,

A recent new Bongo purchaser here. Really happy with the van and conversion.

Just a couple of things related to the engine that are worrying me.

1. After about a week of owner ship it has started misfiring during idle when first started up. it hasn't started misfiring whilst running yet and there doesn't seem to be any loss of power. Once warm the misfire disappears.

2. There is a squeal coming from the engine off power. In any other vehicle I would assume a belt is slipping, just thought I would check with the brains that there is nothing else that could be the culprit before diagnosing and sorting.

Many thanks,

Dom

2.5 V6 24v quad cam petrol .. or the Diesel ..??

If it's the V6 try spark plugs .. dizzy cap .. leads .. rotor .. also check to see if any of the sparky tubes have got filled with oil (or water)..

If it's a 2.5 diesel ... I haven't a clue ..!!

Thanks Wonkanoby.

Just need to find the time to do it now!!

Can the belts be adjusted or is it time for a new one if they are found to be the problem?

regarding the engine squeal off power, check the no1 exhaust manifold stud, the one nearest the alternator. it may be bocken off, or maybe snapped but still in place, put a spanner on it to turn and test, you may find it moves.

try this.

Thanks Northern Bongalow.

I am going to have to try and find some time this weekend to have a poke around under the seat.

Thanks for all the help so far though.

When I used it last night I didn't get any of the squeaking or the miss fire. So it is obviously an intermittent problem.

Ambient temperature can affect starting, belts, etc... You remember if it was much colder with you last week than yesterday?

Hi D and P.

It was definitely warmer when all was well, but I kinda thought that was the point of the glow plugs, to warm the fuel.

The squeak came back with avengence yesterday, it definitely isnt the same as a slipping belt squeak, its too irregular and short, more like there is a mouse under the seat...

Gonna try and investigate today.

Thanks for your help,
