Mushroom Roof - Anywhere else aside from JAL?

Post by digitalgypsy » Mon Feb 11, 2013 3:45 pm

Hello chaps,
I'm seriously thinking about moving on to my second Bongo soon. I have been thinking about how nice it would be to have a mushroom roof! Like those from JAL. I know that JAL only provides the mushroom room if you also have a camper conversion with him as well, which I'm not keen on (thinking about the total cost here).

Has anyone seen a similar roof being supplied elsewhere? I very much doubt there is anything similar but thought I would check with y'all :)

Steve

P.S. I'm aware of the Imperial version: http://www.imperialcar.co.uk/in_stock/1 ... silver_57/ Doesn't look to have as much headroom and is costly at 5 grand!

Have you spoken to JAL about this? According to their advert near the bottom of this page http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/market ... 2013002952, they offer a roof fitting service for their Slimline roof. Seems strange that they would offer to fit one of their roofs to an existing vehicle, but not the mushroom type.

The Imperial roof does have the advantage of being motorised but it still sounds like a lot of money. I know the company that do their conversions (and probably fit this roof too). Drop me a pm if you want further details.

I know JAL wouldn't fit a mushroom roof to ours about 18 months ago...

But they would fit their skylift roof (manual version of the AFT).

Thanks for the replies chaps...
Yep that sounds right. Phil told me that he only supplies the mushroom roof for his own stock with in-house conversions. Such as shame! I think having the headroom at the back would make a big difference to the 'open space' above you. I also like the idea of it being manual. I asked a while ago as well though, I'll ask him again and update this thread.

Simon that would be awesome for those details, I'll just PM you in a little while. Imperial told me that they old supply the roof for their own vehicles so it would be interesting to contact the supplier directly.

Thanks for the links Mike, I'm hoping to find something side-opening like JAL's mushroom roof.

Oh incidentally, has anyone seen JAL's MOON-STAR roof?? It's the mushroom roof with large window for star gazing! Sounds immense

Phil just replied, just to confirm the mushroom is only fitted on their own vehicles:

"yes it is the best by far and hence we only fit to our vehicles, large job to get right"
