Flashing Hold Light.

Post by Howie1501 » Fri Feb 01, 2013 3:44 pm

Hi All, This is my first post so I hope I've done it right.
I bought a Bongo with a auto gearbox problem but I had no idea as the last owner had removed the HOLD light bulb before selling. TOP TIP if your new to Bongo's when test driving always try the HOLD button and check the dash light.
The first thing I did was to replace the bulb and have the gearbox serviced. No change.
Then I removed the Speedo Converter chip and had a face plate fitted. No change.
Then I stripped all the gearbox connectors, cleaned them and sprayed them with contact spray. No change.
I then read the HOLD light flash sequence (you can find how to do this on Bongo Fury) and got 3 faults. One of the faults was the Prop Shaft Speed Output Sensor (located on the Nr/S of the gearbox). I then sorced a new one and a Speedo Output Sensor (located on the Off/S of the gearbox).
Replacing both sensors took 15 minutes and 400km later I've had no problems. Don't get me wrong. I've still got my fingers crossed and I'm will to sacrafice my first born if the HOLD light flashes again and the gear box sticks in 3rd.
Hope this is of use to some of you out there.

Howie

Well done. If the Hold light is flashing don't mess about with oil changes etc. as this will not cure it. READ THE CODES & then you know where to look. I am not saying an oil change is a waste of time - it isn't (providing it is done correctly) but I can never cure a flashing hold light as the ECU can only diagnose electrical issues.

T'is often the way :-( They know when there being talked about!
At least you know how to read the codes this time, it may well be a different problem to the first one of course!
