hot stuff
History-12 months ago my poor 2.5 v6 had major oil leak;cam seals -all changed/new cam belt etc.Present symptons-strong smell burning oil/could fry an egg on the engine even after a reasonably short journey/sluggish between gears and on hills.Checked-oil levels/water /coolant/transmission and no signs of oil leak-have changed all plugs/oil filter and air filter. HELP PLEASE
Re: hot stuff

Re: hot stuff
Binding brakes? After a run, feel the centre of the wheel to see if one is particularly hot. Also jack up the back so both wheels off the ground and try spinning one wheel while it's in neutral. There will be some resistance, but it should continue to rotate once you let go. For the front, you can jack each side up separately and the wheels should spin very easily.
Does the engine seem hotter than normal? Probably difficult to tell without additional digital temperature gauges, but it may just be the hot oily smell that gives the impression of heat. The rocker cover on mine gets to 70 or so degrees which would probably fry an egg, albeit quite slowly.
Probably quite difficult to check for obstructions in the exhaust system without substituting for another one. There are already lots of bends, baffles and wadding in the way.

It won't spin so easily if it is fitted with a limited slip diff. Not sure about V6s but I think all later diesels have one.Simon Jones wrote:Binding brakes?
