hey guys,
as i never use it i just noticed its not working, ie coming on or engaging the gear below. i know the hold light is linked to gearbox issues.
should i be worried or get it looked at, not getting signs of an issue otherwise.
cheers

Good chance its just the bulb that's blown, if you don't replace it you might not know if a fault has developed that will damage the gearbox, the bulb will be a few pence as opposed to several hundred pounds for the gearbox!
The bulbs are (I think) EB 286 see search here https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=eb+28 ... b+286+bulb

Re: hold light not working
cheers for the reply but would a blown bulb stop the physical hold button action?

Ah missed the point, that it wasn't dropping you down as well! More likely to be the switch in that case;

two screws and release the wire running up the stick on the passenger side from its little clip.
Mind you it might be trying to flash you a warning, but the bulb has blown from so many flashes!

Re: hold light not working
Not sure if this is relevant to your problem or not. I had a problem with the other button on the gear lever. The one you need to push in on the gear lever to change out of park. This button physically stuck on my Bongo refusing to push in and blocking the Beast starting as it was registering that the Beast was still in gear. Does that make sense as I have explained it?
The cause was a weak spring inside the gear leaver meaning the cable to the ignition was not being pulled into the correct position to register the lever was in park. Also the connecting cable was snagging internally so not moving easily which added to the effects of the failing spring.
The cure was firstly to swap the gear lever for one with a new spring. Its replaceable but fiddly. Secondly to disconnect the snagging cable while I am waiting for a replacement part.
Both buttons operate on a similar lever and spring mechanism and a failure of the other spring could mean a non working hold button.
