Some extra info needed;
Which version of the vehicle do you have ?
Which type of air con controls Manual or Electronic ?
Do you have a L/B fitted ?
Does the Demister or Cig lighters work during the first few minutes ?

Well the only "common" electrical aspect is that Wipers, Heater controls, Windows and Demister are all fed via the Ignition switch on what is referred to as the IG2 circuit - this is powered in the ON position but not in the ACC or ST positions, it could be a dirty/faulty ignition switch. If the radio and cig lighters work OK all the time then that would suggest just that one circuit is affected. Try spraying some switch cleaner onto the contacts if possible and then work the switch several times.

The Ignition switch is top centre in the diagram above fed by the 60 Amp fuse IG KEY.

Could it be a bad connection to the back of the fusebox?

It could also just be a battery / alternator issue. When our alternator was failing and the battery voltage dropped one of the first things to stop working was the wipers, along with various other dashboard functions.
