idles fine but won't rev past 2000rpm

Post by emerson1987 » Fri Nov 09, 2012 5:24 am

Hey guys, unfortunately I'm back. :-( My bongo is poorly again and I was hoping someone out there may have experienced similar problems or have any advice. She starts up fine and idles fine but when I press the accelerator it revs up to about 2000rpm then will back off or stay around the 2000rpm mark. All of the inlet side seems to be fine when I checked for blockages, the turbo spins freely and the fuel filter is pretty much like new. Before this started I had a problem with lots of black smoke on cold starts and was wondering if it could be something to do with the EGR or a dirty sensor perhaps? Also sometimes when traveling up hill the revs would get stuck and it would struggle up the hill, then when I released accelerator it would stall.

What engine?
Those were the symptoms I had with a blocked fuel or banjo filter on a diesel.

Does it behave better if you remove your fuel cap? May be that the breather hole is blocked...?

as the guys above say check the banjo filter if its a diesel, and the new fuel filter (cheap ones can cause grief).
then check the side seals on the fuel pump, are they leaking. then the thin black advance pipe that runs from the pump head forward to the air inlet manifold, has it come off or is it blocked with the egr oily gunk, this can stop the vac advance of the pump when the oil fills up the top of the pump.
