ZIG CF 9B

Post by Colin H F » Fri Oct 19, 2012 1:19 pm

Hi guys, while I had my side conversion out I decided to run the cables in readiness off fitting my power management system [ZIG CR 9B] which I purchased from a well known site. I also downloaded from the web the instruction manual as it did not come with one, but the schematic wiring diagram is almost illegible so if any one can put one on here I would be grateful, anyway while looking for another copy on the web came across some other forums asking questions about this model and one said that when he connects his leisure and van battery to the specified terminals it blows the 25 amp fuses, one of the answers came back "your not supposed to connect both batteries up if you have got already got a split charge system wired in", well I thought thats funny as my previous Bongo DID,
any light on this guys cheers Colin,,, PS will put pics up when complete

There's quite posts regarding CF8 that I've commented on over the years. The built in split charge is very crude, so you are better off leaving the switch in the 'on site' position to let your normal split charge do all the work. When wired as per Zig's instructions, you should not be blowing fuses all the time.

There are copies (2) here Colin http://www.g8dhe.net/bongo_images/zig/ but the quality of the pages are poor as they have been photo-copied many times before being scanned in.
To be honest the CF9 and others are overkill for motorhomes they are intended more for caravans, the switching internally will parallel the batteries if your not careful, which totally obviates the purpose of having a L/B and keeping the S/B only for starting. If you can lay your hands on one of the older Zig Marque 1 your better off for the Bongo.

I'll second Geoff's comment about the switching, making sure it's set correctly.

I made this mistake last year and flattened both batteries in France and had to call the breakdown out for a jump start.
I too think there are better more simple solutions but it came with the conversion.
Now got a Willinton kit fitted and just leave the ZIg alone.
I did a thread somewhere about a mod so that the Zig will charge the SB as well as LB when on hook up, got a bit paranoid after the French cockup.

Thanks Geoff & briwy for your help, but those cpies are what I've already got I was rather hoping that one of our members had one he could scan and copy for me, the main reason I have gone for the very cheap Zig unit is to charge the batteries when on hook up

Is it the circuit diagrams your having problems with, like the connection numbers on the strip or something else ? I'll see if I can improve the diagrams if that's the case, let me know.

I've never seen a circuit diagram for the internals of the unit Colin if that's what you are after. Not sure if it exists, perhaps Geoff knows.
I'm going to take mine to bits sometime and see what's inside so will do a diagram then.

There you go http://www.g8dhe.net/bongo_images/zig/Z ... Manual.pdf
Do read the two little Comments I've added to the text, I noticed that there is a confusion in one of the wiring details, not critical as it happens but it might throw some people.
I've also noticed that there doesn't appear to be a Fridge switch, there appears to be only a 15 Amp fuse so if your fridge doesn't have its own switch, then one will need adding.
The other factor is that the diagrams are really only for Caravans, for a motorhome then the Fridge +12 volt supply which normally comes from the 12S plug via the CF9 needs to be connected to the Leisure Battery so where the wire going to Pin 11 of the 12S plug this needs to be connected to terminal 4 (via a switch as noted above if required).

I wonder if anyone is able to take a well lit picture of the front panel of the CF9, if so and all the switches and markings are clear I'll add it as none of the scanned photocopies are at all legible ?

Just tried the link, the two pages with diagrams are definitely updated, and the notes are showing here as little Yellow icons within the text ?

Thanks for the photos they look viable I'll process them in as well today.

very odd that Geoff just opened the link again and scrutinised it no notes and no yellow icons and the drawing is identical to the original, is my system preventing it from showing or something, going back on something you mention I have not got a fridge, just going to get a cooler box.
