Starting a new thread on my matrix issue in readiness for when my new [used] evaporator arrives. does anyone know any where or anyone who can re-gas the system for me once its ready. Preferably in the Liverpool area, Wheelquick don't do it. also I have seen the vids on coolant bleeding and it took three of them using the funnel system, is there a simpler way, other cars I have done in the past, you just keep topping up the radiator and header tank while using the bleed nipple. why doesn't the system just blow the air out once its hot and the pump is running.

If there's air in the cylinder head, the pump is trying to push the air /down/ from the top of the engine to somewhere near the level of the front axle before it comes back up again to the radiator, and then the degassing tank. I think. That's why you need to bleed from the head. Thereafter, there's the return from the radiator to the thermostat, hence the need to get it hot enough to purge that pipework. I think.

That is exactly what it should do,once the thermostat opens,you should get a rush of air from the bleed hose.

I see, ah well I'll just have to persevere with the well tried way once its all back together thanks guys

the reason there are 3 peeps doing the bleeding vidio is just for demo.....2 peeps are plenty and I have done many on my own...Do not ignore the warnings about bleeding...the cylinder head is the high point in the system and being mid engined there are loads of coolant pipe runs.......get it wrong and a new cylinder head will cost you about £2000 fitted.

Sorry for my reply,just noticed that you have a 2000 petrol vehicle.

Not a big fan of them .. but KwikFit do re-gas for around £50 ... if it don't work ..you don't pay..

I thought the 2l petrol didn't have a bleed tube as such, the tube already runs back to the degassing tank I seem to recall, so it may bleed itself but you won't be able to apply the video method anyway.

Ah, missed the 2 liter bit....Just refill as a normal vehicle.....no bleed tube

thanks mike at least I now know it can be done when I'm ready it it OK to run without it be gased if I dont use the rear heater

When the compressor is engaged the A/C system also uses oil in the refrigerant gas to lubricate the bearings etc: .. so do not turn the A/C on until it as been re gassed ..

The A/C engineers usually have all the relevant info stored in there computer .. but there maybe a specification label under your bonnet with the information similar to this ...
