Folding mirror doesn't fold

Post by Rebiam » Tue Oct 09, 2012 8:34 am

Hi all - my nearside mirror suddenly no longer folds - having checked the forum the best advice I found was here the thread is locked.

http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 59#p269711

Before I start taking it all to bits where is the best guess the problem with the wiring might be, and I presume I am looking for a break in the red or grey wires? The mirror glass still tilts and swivels.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks all

Possibly in the door loom on the passenger-side, but the passenger-side window can fail due to a broken wire in the driver-side door loom. It may well be the case that the passenger-side wing mirror can suffer the same.

Try it with the each of the doors both closed and/or open and somewhere in between and check for mirror movement... With a soldering iron and some heatshrink or electrical tape, you should be able to effect a repair.

Here are the wiring diagrams for the door mirrors for the older vehicles:

As the guys have stated above... The door loom bundle is most likely to be the culprit..?!! Check all the wires carefully in the passenger side loom though while yer at it for possible fracture or perished speaker, mirror glass control, mirror fold, CL & window control too!

I take it you are getting no noise at all from the offending mirror fold motor...? No whirring, clicks or pops??

The mirror on the passenger side will not be affected by any brake in the drivers door loom.... But you are correct about the window functions..!!! :D
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

Thanks all - a quick investigation in my tea break has identified the broken wire and a quick fix has been accomplished. Looks like the weekend will be spent sorting out the loom as there are quite a lot of wires in there that are looking - shall we say threadbare. I am amazed most of the stuff in the passenger door is working at all.

Thanks again
