Mot, headlamp bulbs, Stalling

1st the good bits.
Van passed MOT second year running with no probs. yippee.

Followed advice and changed out the 195,s I had in error on rear with 215,s.

Upgraded headlight bulbs. Word of warning, anybody about to attemp this job. Don`t even try to do this with lamps in situ.
The old bulbs are impossibe to get out let alone new ones in.
Just remove the grill, (one screw, 2 clips) and headlamp assembly ( three screws ) swop bulbs and bing bang bosh, the jobs a good un.

Now the bad bit. The van during the last week has just started to stall, it occurs when engine has just warmed up, the revs drop right off when breaking or slowing down. The fuel filter is not that old, I`ve washed out the fuel cap. The problem may have something do with vacuum building up in fuel tank, what do you think?
It does appear to start and run better with a full tank, perhaps that is the solution, don`t let it drop below half full.

Its a 2.5 d. Any ideas

blocked tank breather is common on bongo's sometimes linked to wearing out the front seal on the fuel pump.

Which year vehicle do you have? changing the bulbs, even with battery trays in the way is usually only a 2 minute job?

Hi Julian, blimey that was quick.

Its a 1999 new shape. ( purchased from 321 a couple of years ago ).

The connectors were jammed tight on spade terminals, I was a bit concerned about breaking the retaing clip.

I had a similar problem with stalling a couple of years ago and you sorted it out for me ( you had it in for a couple of days )
but I can`t remember what the solution was.

if its a diesel the tank breather is mounted on the driverside inner chassis rail, find the diesel filter housing on the inner rail then work backwards about 12 inches its a soft black pipe that terminates in a black plastic 1inch round valve, just pull the valve off the chassis rail then remove from the pipe end and test/washout and refit.
the valve has a pop in nipple to fix to the chassis, just pull away from the chassis.

Can't work out why it should run better on a full tank if breather is blocked. I mean, the tank vacuum should get stronger quicker with a full tank?

Hi,
I am a bit confused to see how a faulty VPRV can cause a vacuum as it is basically a (vapour) pressure relief valve and not a breather.

Different angle alert!! :P Could it be the cold start solenoid not holding up the idle when slowing or stopped....?
What does it do if you leave the van running up to temp standing on the "drive" or where you park it??
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...
