Best way to get ipod connected to sony cdx-4160 stereo?

Post by Mcrdave » Sun Sep 30, 2012 10:41 pm

I have this stereo in my bongo, no aux in as you can see from this link, pics in the listing below

I have found a wiring diagram, and noticed it has a 3.5mm jack for a remote on the back. Would this work as an aux-in!? (doubt it but thought it's worth an ask. If not, are there any other options before I spend money on a new stereo (other than a fm transmitter).

I was hoping a neat little box like these connects2 would maybe do the trick?

Any help appreciated!

dont put it in the "remote in" its just a signal that operates the stereo.. I think the only way is with an Ipod specific adapter or head phones

The only one from that connec2 link that will work is the fm modulator. That plugs in line with the aerial lead and means you tune the radio into a preset frequency to listen to iPod. Might be cheaper ones out there though, specific to iPod that do the same basic job. They plug into your iPod and turn into a little radio station. The quality isn't perfect but if you definitely don't want to change the head unit this might be the best way.

I have an mp3 player in my picasso and don't have an input on my radio,I use an ipod FM transmitter, about £25 in halfords, I got mine brand new on e-bay for about £5 you just set an output frequency on your transmitter, and tune in your radio to the same frequency works fine, you do get the odd occasion where you have to change the frequency due to clashes from local radio stations, takes seconds not a problem.
