reversing lights and beep intermittent

just drove home from work for first time its dark

and i noticed whilst shuffling back and forth in to a tight parking spot

that not only does the reverse not beep

every time i use it

but more to the point no beep means no reversing lights

can i assume its a contact switch or the like some were?
